Sea Glass and Me

Since I was a wee girl, I have always loved being creative and being surrounded by nature.  A vivid memory from childhood is my Gran and Grandad taking me, my Brother and Sister to Auchmithie beach, a special place on the east coast of Scotland where I rummaged for hours through pebbles, just mesmerised  by the beautiful colours that nature had produced in the simple stones. Now I’m a bigger girl!! I have combined my love of both nature and craft work to create my Scottish Sea Glass business in 2009.

Previous to setting up Scottish Sea Glass, I studied and worked as an Occupational Therapist, predominantly working with people with learning difficulties.  Through this work, I carried out research studies and intensive work with individuals and groups of people, using craft work as a therapeutic tool.

I then had my two amazing children, and the lovely opportunity to stay at home looking after them when they were wee tots.  My husband is a keen open water swimmer and as a family we spent a good deal of time at the beach. This is where the concept of Scottish Sea Glass was born and from there, I have turned my dream into reality : of utilising nature and craft on a daily basis to create something truly wonderful!

I love the fact that through nature, the power of the sea turns the glass I use in my work from what was once ‘sea litter’ into beautifully pieces of frosted, magically shaped ‘sea treasure’.

Using this stunning, reclaimed and recycled sea glass to make my jewellery is truly amazing to me and for this opportunity I am truly grateful.

I hope you enjoy my work as much as I  love collecting the sea glass, designing each piece and making my Scottish Sea Glass jewellery and accessories.

Much love, Gaynor x
